To Supplement or Not to Supplement- That is The Question

Okay so here we are; you took control of your life and decided today is the day you go into the gym and start on your fitness journey. You just crushed your first workout, (more like got crushed but hey you finished day 1) you’re already planning on what healthy choices you are going to eat for your post workout meal, and you already set the time for when you’re going back to the gym tomorrow. You start your drive home, you pass a supplement shop and decide to head on in to pick up a few things you saw lying around the gym or overheard some people talking about at the gym. As soon as you walk through those doors you have no idea what the hell is what and what is supposed to be used in order to do what you want to do. If you were anything like me you immediately freak out and start googling just about everything on the shelves. All this does is confuse you more because all your searches take you to articles that are too scientific for you to try to understand or even want to understand… So what do you do?

Well this is where I like to apply one of the best-taught methods I’ve ever learned, and that is the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) method. Sounds a bit harsh but sometimes this is the exact knock to the noggin that we need. When you are just starting to workout you don’t need to get too deep into the supplement business because truth be told just eating better and exercising again will produce results for you. That being said there are a few things that you can pick up that will not only aid you while you’re inside of the gym but that will help your overall health in life as well. I won’t bog you down with all the scientific talk (that will come in later post) but instead I will list a few things with the benefits of taking them on a daily basis. The list below will be supplements that you should take even if you are not working out, something that you can recommend to your spouse, family, or friends as an everyday supplement for your overall general health.

Turmeric has been proven to have many healthy benefits including:

  • Being high in antioxidants
  • Improved brain functions
  • Fights against heart disease
  • Prevents cancer
  • Prevents alzheimer’s disease
  • Helps ease arthritis
  • and curcumin (the ingredient inside that gives it that yellow orange color) is a natural anti-inflammatory compound which will help with muscle soreness and joint pain.

  • Reduces high blood pressure
  • Prevents cardiovascular diseases
  • Keeps the bones healthy
  • Protects from type-II diabetes
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Healthy skin
  • Joint pain

  • Detoxifies the body
  • Regulates pH balance in the body
  • Lowers glucose levels, blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Reduces inflammation and arthritis
  • Promotes healthy blood circulation

Those are your most basic all natural supplements meaning that they are supplements that you should be getting in your everyday diet or help fill in those holes in your diet. Taking these 3 supplements everyday and getting into a routine where taking them becomes a habit will be more beneficial for you than getting any proteins or bcaa’s or creatine. Remember these 3 natural supplements should be taken whether you stop working out or not and will not just help you inside of the gym but your overall health in everyday life
